Nokia N96 unboxing

Now, when everything is out of the Nokia N96 box we can pay some attention on the phone itself. The phone looks good on the outside, nice black plastic and silver sides. The first impression was that the phone was solid and almost unbreakable but as soon as we had it in our hands we were a bit disappointed. As first the phone is very light, I personally expected it to be quite heavy, the specs on Nokia's site don't tell much, feeling it in my hand was the real thing. Don't get me wrong the phone is OK but somehow the plastic feels cheap, especially the buttons on the front (while pressing them).

The other thing that got me a bit was that the display looked a bit dim, but playing around with the settings brought it to life. Changing the brightness setting revealed a very bright, crisp, large display.

Here is the Nokia N96 with the keypad extended:

The keypad feels ok a bit hard to press at first but at least the buttons are not like the Nokia N78 or Nokia N82. The next picture shows the N96 with the multimedia controls extended on the other side of the phone:

The multimedia controls are quite usefull having in mind that this is a multimedia phone with 16GB for music, movies, movie clips and other media files.

Nokia N96 back

On the back of the N96 you can see the 5.2 megapixel camera with the dual flash and the kickstand which allows you to comfortably watch movies when your phone is on the table.

Nokia N96 vs HTC Touch Diamond

Although these are two totally different devices, the HTC Touch Diamond was the only device I had near me and just for informational purposes I put them side by side. The two devices are alost identical in size width and height but the Nokia N96 is almost twice the HTC in depth. All in all we think that the N96 is a great phone offering the best of Nokia's think tank. We will be using this device to test the freeware applications we present on this site and I personally think that there is no other Symbian S60 phone that will do the job better.

Could it be simply me or does it seem like some of these responses look as if they are coming from brain dead individuals? And, if you are posting on additional sites, I would like to follow anything new you have to post. Would you list of every one of all your shared sites like your twitter feed, Facebook page or linkedin profile?
