Nokia N97 software update 11.X.021 released

Nokia N97 Software update

This software release includes significant improvements in the software stability, especially email, imaging, USB detection, widget stability and display transitions. To enable you to get the most out of your Nokia N97, the release also includes an Ovi store client. Further application updates will become available soon. To get this software through your device, select Applications > SW Updates and choose the software you want to update. Additionally this software release is available through the Nokia Software Updater at www.nokia.com/softwareupdates.

This is what the official Nokia press release said, but since we were unable to download the new 11.x.021 firmware update, at least for now, as soon as we get our hands on it we will play around and publish our impressions on the performance and improvements introduced by this update. However it seems strange that even though we checked the Nokia update site for new updates from the current version 10.0.012, it showed us that there are no updates available for the moment and the latest firmware version for the N97 is 10.0.012. OK Nokia, we will try again later.

The new 11.x.021 firmware for the Nokia N97 brings the following changes to the device:
  • USB detection error fix;
  • PC does not detect N97 or USB charging connection not detected;
  • Home screen online/offline widget crash fix;
  • Fix for Alphabetical and Number input are mixed in facebook until end key is pressed;
  • Widget UI improvement - New facebook widget fixes a problem of Home Screen background visible on soft-key area;
  • Browser fixes to improve widgets stability;
  • Partial fix for Messaging/calendar entry lost;
  • Mail for exchange calendar entry synchronization error fix;
  • UI transition error fixes (Portrait <-> landscape transition, there is a home screen corruption);
  • UI transition (Slowness and bad effects);
  • Slow Touch UI response;
  • Picture of the device lock appears half of the screen when transitioning the UI sometimes;
  • Photos thumbnail performance and stability improvements;
  • Device performance deteriorates when lots of content in the device - especially photos;
  • Partial fix no display backlight illumination when unlocking lock-key;
  • New version of Accuweather to improve the Connection error situation;
  • Device reset when browsing with high speed packet access (for Malaysia);
  • Browser soft key UI doesn’t work after putting Chinese character with qwerty keyboard;
  • Java fixes (TCK, Pre-install app disappearing, #7370#);
  • Operator fixes (CMCC, Hutchson and Telefonica, Vodafone);
  • Ovi store client now embedded in the core image

I was looking forward this software update for my Nokia N97 but it shows that no updates are available. I hope later today there will be something to see. And I honestly hope this update will make some of the problems I had go away.

As we were able to get more into from Nokia, why we were unable to update, we got confirmation that the new update is available but it will be released gradually for all product codes for the Nokia N97. So we will have to wait a bit to update ours.

well the reason that u weren't able to update was because maybe the update isn't ready for your product code yet.certain updates are released for certain product codes.u should try changing the product code using a program such as NSS to an updatable product code(Usually Gulf and Arabic updates are the first to be released), update and change it back to normal.

Unfortunately Nokia has not been kind enough to release the firmware update in time for all product codes, you can not do anything for the moment except to wait at least for now.
